Turning over a new leaf

January 11th, 2013 · No Comments · Events at the Playlot

Playlot supporters and volunteers,

Happy New Year! I’m excited to announce that on Saturday, January 19 we’re hosting a tree planting event in and around the Solano Playlot, and we need more volunteers to get these lovely trees into the ground. We’ll be planting 6 new trees in the Playlot, and another 8 or more as street trees for the neighbors who live around the park. If you can volunteer between 10am and 1pm, please send a quick email to Nancy or leave a comment here.

  • When: Saturday, 1/19 from 9am-1pm
  • Where: Meet at the Solano Playlot
  • Bring: Work gloves

We’re proud to be joined by members of Richmond Trees, the fantastic new community organization that has been working to plant hundreds more trees in neighborhoods throughout Richmond. The Rotary Club of Richmond has generously donated funds to purchase the new trees, supports and other necessary materials, and will be turning out some volunteers. The City of Richmond’s Parks and Landscaping Department is also helping to supply all the equipment we need for the planting, is working on tree placement and supporting us in many other ways.

This tree planting is the first step toward landscaping the park, which remains one of our biggest outstanding projects. We’ll provide water, coffee, and healthy snacks.

Thanks for your support throughout 2012, and we look forward to another year of improving the Solano Playlot and our North and East neighborhood in Richmond.

Thank you,

Melanie
